GENERAL INFORMATION
The Newfoundland Volunteer War Service Medal Act, 1993 authorizes the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to issue medals to those
1. who volunteered and served in units which were the contribution of the Dominion of Newfoundland to the allied war effort during the Second World War (1939 1945). This includes Newfoundland Veterans of the Royal Navy, the British Army, the Royal Air Force, the Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit, the Newfoundland Militia and the Merchant Navy.
2. who is ineligible for or has not received a volunteer war services medal from another country.
An Application Form and a Statutory Declaration Form must be completed by the appropriate family member. Please forward the completed forms to the address indicated on the top of the Application Form.
1. Note: Only those relatives listed below
in order of priority are eligible to be awarded a medal on behalf of a deceased member of his or her family:
· Surviving Spouse · Eldest Surviving Child · Eldest Surviving Parent · Eldest Surviving Brother or Sister
2. Indicate where you place in the family. If you are in the priority list of eldest surviving brother or sister and are not the eldest, we require a letter from that family member authorizing the release of the medal to you.
3. Upon receipt of the completed Application, Statutory Declaration Form and the appropriate consent letter (if needed), and verification from Veterans Affairs, the medal will be forwarded.
